Restocking Our Medicine Cabinet & Tips to Stay Healthy This Cold and Flu Season

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Food Lion for IZEA Worldwide. All opinions are 100% mine.

My family and I love this time of year. We love the holidays, the festivals, the cool-weather activities…pretty much all of it! With cooler weather and more time indoors, though, comes an increased likelihood of illness.

One of the most important things I like to do at the beginning of Fall is restock our medicine cabinet so we’re ready for whatever colder weather throws at us. When someone gets sick, I like knowing that I have the medicine we need (and that it didn’t expire last year)!

I begin by gathering all of our medicines/personal care items, and tossing the ones that have expired. I wipe down all of the shelves in our medicine cabinet, and, lastly, I make a list of what I need to replenish.

I make sure to focus on items that we often need at the last-minute (or in the middle of the night!). There’s nothing worse than needing medicine for myself or my child at three in the morning and having to run out to get it!

Recently, I discovered CareOne, my new go-to source for over-the-counter healthcare and personal care need products, found at Food Lion! CareOne offers a wide variety of healthcare and personal care products, always at a lower price than national brands.

CareOne products are not only affordable, but they’re endorsed by pharmacists, as well.

I love that I can find reliable, well-priced health and personal care products at my grocery store–it’s so convenient not to need a separate trip to a drugstore! For More Information about Food Lion’s Private Brand labels click here

I stocked up on those things we use most frequently, such as cough drops, aspirin, acetaminophen, allergy meds, ibuprofen, cold/flu relief, soap, bandages and more! I purchased both children and adult products, as well as a few extras to keep in my handbag and in the car.

As they say, though, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. While I like having healthcare products on hand for when I need them, I also am always looking for ways to stay healthy so we don’t need them in the first place!

Some simple tips for staying healthy this cold and flu season?

  • Wash your Hands. I know this is so obvious, but washing your hands often, with the warmest water you can stand, is one of the BEST ways to not get sick in the first place.
  • Get Outside. Germs aren’t necessarily more prevalent in the cooler months, the problem is that we stay inside and are in such close quarters, it makes it easier for germs to spread from person to person.
  • Keep Your Hands Away From Your Face. I tell my kids (and myself) this all the time. Try to refrain from touching your face to help keep germs from making you sick. This is a hard one, but so important!
  • Take Preventative Measures. Practicing self-care, getting enough sleep, eating well and exercising can all play a part in how often we get sick (as well as the duration of any illness).

Despite our best efforts, of course, sickness does happen! That’s why I’m thankful for Food Lion and CareOne for being there for our family when illness does strike.

I’d love to know: how often do you clean out your medicine cabinet? Have you tried CareOne products at Food Lion?
