Baby Prep 101

Welcoming a new baby into your life is one of the most joyful experiences you can have. Before they arrive, you’ll want to make sure that you are fully prepared for your little one. Here are a few ideas to help you prepare for your new baby.

The first thing to do before your baby gets here is set up a nursery. You’ll need to get a crib, a changing station, a rocking chair, and have a place to store a few toys and blankets. If you don’t have a ton of space in your home, it’s enough to set up a nursery in a corner of a room. It’s important to create a space just for your baby so that you know exactly where everything is. Changing a diaper is a lot easier when you have a table set up with wipes and a trash can. And you’ll never need to wonder where your newborn’s favorite toy is if you keep it next to the crib. Get creative with the space you have, and you’ll have a lovely nursery set up in no time.

There are so many firsts for you and your newborn up ahead; there’s a lot for you both to look forward to. To make sure you capture the firsts most important to you, try planning which firsts you want to record. Is it their first time meeting a dog? Their first bath? Or the first story book you read to them? Your baby will go through dozens of firsts, and you may not be able to take pictures for all of them. But there are a few firsts you can plan in advance. Make sure you’ve got your camera ready when the time comes!

With so many to picture to take of your baby, don’t forget to take pictures with your baby. You may not feel like taking pictures with your child. Parenthood is stressful, and while your newborn always looks adorable, you may not feel the same way about yourself. Don’t wait for the picture perfect moment to take selfies with your baby. Take as many photos with them as you’d like, and don’t get hung up on how you look. Just capture the moment. Parenthood is about more than watching your baby grow up, it’s about recognizing your growth as well. Document that growth with photos with you and your kids. You’ll be glad you did.

Lastly, find a good photographer and do a newborn photoshoot with them. As fun as it is to take pictures of your baby yourself, you’ll want some professional photos as well. A professional photographer can capture your baby from a different perspective, and you’ll see your child in a whole new way. If you want to share those photos with your loved ones, you can order a few newborn announcements. I love getting my announcements and stationery from Basic Invite. All of their designs are completely customizable, so you can make sure your cards are perfect. I love their newborn announcement cards and unique birth announcements. I’m sure you will too!

I hope parenting is a wonderful experience for you. Remember to send out baby announcements, take photos with your newborn, and set up a nursery, for a great start on your new life with kids. I hope you enjoy every minute!
