dip-dyed marshmallow garland {a tutorial}

dip-dyed

I’m always looking for new ways and unique materials to use to create garlands. If you think about it, almost anything can be used for a garland…as evidenced by this dip-dyed marshmallow garland! Yes…marshmallows! They’re inexpensive, easy to color and perfect for stringing together to create a unique and fun focal point!

Materials:

  • Large Marshmallows
  • Food Coloring
  • Needle and Bakers Twine for Stringing

Step 1: Take a small, cylindrical container (I used an egg cup), and fill 2/3 of the way with water. Add 3-4 drops of food coloring, and stir with a toothpick. Dip your marshmallow into the water for no more than 5 seconds (much more, and your marshmallow will begin to dissolve).

Step 2: Place on parchment paper to dry. Place in freezer to firm up (this will make it easier to string them later).

Step 3: String a needle with baker’s twine, and string your marshmallows onto the twine.

There you have it! An easy, dipped marshmallow garland perfect for a mantle, kids room, or anywhere you need a dose of whimsy! As you may imagine, I’d recommend these garlands for indoor use only 🙂
